The Long Song tells of an extraordinarily powerful story of slavery, revolution, freedom and love, set in Jamaica, and told in the irresistibly willful and intimate voice of Miss July. With some editorial assistance from her son, Thomas, the book traces the life of Miss July, the child of a field slave on the Amity sugar plantation, who experienced war and slavery through to its chaotic end.
